Over
its 100 years plus of history the firm has been responsible for
numerous projects, and our archives are extensive. Of particular
interest are the church projects since it is these institutions
that most frequently contact us requesting copies of original drawings.
As well, the archives hold innumerable residential projects, most
of which are identified by the name of the original client, rather
than municipal address. In addition, there are drawing archives
of the various university, other institutional and social housing
projects. The University of Calgary Archives archived some of the
design and competition work of J. Frances Brown Architect and F.
Bruce Brown Architect.
From
the mid-1920’s onwards, projects were filed by project number but
we have discovered that earlier projects were not so organized.
In fact, many early projects are not even dated. As a result, their
locations are simply identified by a numeric tube number. Later,
often smaller projects or project proposals were filed in alphabetically
identified tubes. In any case, we have attempted to identify the
nature of the archive material for each project listed. While many
projects listed are ones the predecessor firms have carried out,
we have discovered blueprints for some original buildings by other
architects that our predecessors expanded or altered. The names
of the responsible architects are listed with the project drawing
information. Often these drawings are filed with the firm archives
and so duplication of project numbers results.

Having
stewardship of these files creates a responsibility to make the
expanse of information both known and available. On this basis,
we have created this database of our church project drawing archives.
It is organized alphabetically, with file location (project or tube
number), municipality, architect and project type headings providing
additional information. Should you be looking for drawings of your
church building that we have listed on file, we would be pleased
to retrieve, reproduce and forward them for a nominal fee to cover
our costs. Please contact us indicating the church project name
and location for a quote.
