BB&R Architect is an architectural firm with a long history
of serving church and institutional clients. We bring a respectful
approach to our work with older and historic buildings. We design
new facilities each in a distinct manner, in response to our clients'
needs. Our long history enables us to draw on a wealth of experience
when serving our clients.
This experience fosters an expertise that enables us to creatively
develop, enlarge and improve the facilities of our religious and
educational clientele. Our projects include fabric and feasibility
studies; the designing of new buildings and additions; interior
renovations to meet new or changing needs; retrofitting for barrier
free accessibility; repairs; and maintenance and/or restoration
of historic buildings.
Particularly in our work with churches, BB&R Architect can
aid our clients by first defining the Core Issues of a project.
The Core issues best arise from an organization's Mission Statement
and its supporting activities. Instrumental in this process is
a well-developed Questionnaire. It can be distributed to groups
and individuals to solicit responses related to the use and adequacy
of individual spaces and the facility as a whole. As well, it
endeavours to elicit the dreams of what might be in response to
that renewed Mission Statement. Such an approach can engender
a positive community response to the design and building process
that follows. Our Building Project Development
Process document provides an overview of the steps involved
in implementing renewal to one's facility.
BB&R Architect has its origin in the 1890's as the firm of
J. Francis Brown Architect. Three generations of architects culminated
in the predecessor firm of Brown Beck & Ross Architects. Throughout
they have had a notable impact, particularly within the church
community. A Record of Practice details
our history. Since 1981 the firm and its predecessors have been
involved in over 400 church related projects ranging from repairs
and studies to new facilities. In addition we have carried out
a number of social housing projects and continue our institutional
work. Projects are located throughout southern and central Ontario.
The firm is currently directed by William
Menzel.
